An induction cooktop's coil creates a changing magnetic field that reaches into the metal pan and induces current directly inside it, so the pan becomes its own heating element while the glass, not a conductor, never heats. That directness makes induction roughly 90 percent efficient, versus about 74 percent for a standard electric coil.
