The blue blood that guards every injection
Before nearly any injectable drug in the US reaches you, a drop of blue horseshoe-crab blood checks it for endotoxin, a bacterial poison that ordinary sterilizing leaves behind. The blood clots the instant it touches the poison. The FDA approved this test, called LAL, in 1977.
